b)(2x)^3 = 2x * 2x * 2x = 8x^3
c) (-3y)^2 = - 3y * (- 3y) = 9y^2
d) (4x^3) = 4x * 4x * 4x = 64x^3

Ex 8:
a) 2x^2 - 4x + 1
= 2*(-3)^2 - 4*(-3) + 1
= 18 + 12 + 1
=31

b) 2(a + b) ^2 - ab^2
= 2(2-4)^2 - (2*(-4))^2
=2*2 - 64
=-60

c) 3x^3 - 2x^2 - 4
=3*(2/3)^3 - 2(2/3)^2 - 4
